Christie Westby is a committed advocate with extensive experience in the nonprofit and public sectors, along with a strong background in K-12 education initiatives. She began her nonprofit journey as a Sustainability Planning & Development Fellow at the County of San Diego in 2023, where she supported environmental programs and developed resource allocation strategies. From 2022 to 2023, Christie worked at the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). There, she led the development of the ICLEI app and refined gas emissions tracking tools to help local governments meet sustainability goals.
In addition to her environmental work, Christie has contributed to the advancement of K-12 education through initiatives aimed at engaging and empowering diverse students. As a Lead Facilitator at the Young Echelon STEAM Camp, she provided instruction on coding fundamentals and robot construction, using hands-on activities to build confidence and inspire innovation among participants. In her role as a Youth Program Leader for the University of San Diego Black Ingenious Initiative, Christie designed interactive learning experiences that fostered teamwork and introduced students to various fields, including math, art, and engineering. Additionally, she oversaw collaborative projects at the University of San Diego STEAM Academy, enhancing creativity and critical thinking skills among underrepresented students, and promoting a sense of community and belonging.
Now in her senior year at the University of San Diego, Christie is majoring in Supply Chain Management and minoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). She is eager to continue using her leadership skills to make an impact in her community.
