Active Military & Veteran Volunteering
HandsOn San Diego is a proud supporter of our service members. As part of our continued efforts to support veterans, active military, and their loved ones, we are offering them FREE individual and family memberships. We hope that volunteering with us allows them to better connect with the San Diego community during their time here.
Get started:
- Create an account here.
- For the FREE membership, on the payment page select either the individual or family membership.
- If you're active military or a military family member, use promo code: MIL
- If you're a veteran, use promo code: VET
- Start volunteering by signing up for projects on our calendar. If you created a family team account, follow these steps to add your team members.
Because teams are an added feature, we have a fee that cannot be waived. If the fee is an issue, individuals can sign themselves up individually using the promo code, but they will not be linked to your team. We can offer military teams a discounted fee of $50 (regularly $200). Select the "Group" membership and use promo code: MILTEAM when creating your account.
We send out emails with projects weekly but most military email addresses bounce our emails. You can subscribe to receive them with your personal email address here.
Additional Opportunities for Veteran Volunteers
The Mission Continues
The Mission Continues’ vision is for all veterans with a desire to continue their service to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities.
Veterans are at the center of everything they do.
They’re building a movement that empowers veterans to continue their service, and empowers communities with veteran talent, skills and preparedness to generate visible impact.
At The Mission Continues, they’re on a mission to connect veterans with under-resourced communities. Their programs deploy veteran volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.
Team Rubicon
Team Rubicon serves communities by mobilizing veterans to continue their service, leveraging their skills and experience to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises.
Team Rubicon’s mission is providing relief to those affected by disaster, no matter when or where they strike. By pairing the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders, medical professionals, and technology solutions, Team Rubicon aims to provide the greatest service and impact possible.
Through continued service, Team Rubicon seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster relief; community, built by serving with others; and identity, from recognizing the impact one individual can make. Coupled with leadership development and other opportunities, Team Rubicon looks to help veterans transition from military to civilian life.
Ways to Support Veterans
Homes For Our Troops
Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a publicly funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Most of these Veterans have sustained life-altering injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent has gone directly to our program services supporting Veterans. For more information, visit www.hfotusa.org.
There are three community events that surround each home build. For information on how your company can contribute and volunteer, please email partnership@hfotusa.org
