Equipment Maintenance Support

Maintaining the equipment at HumanityOne Campus is essential for the smooth operation of their community programs and activities. Properly functioning generators, tractors, power tools, and other equipment ensure that their campus remains safe, efficient, and ready to serve the community’s needs.

Volunteers will directly support the infrastructure that allows HumanityOne to offer spiritual retreats, educational workshops, and community events. By volunteering, individuals will gain practical experience in equipment maintenance, develop technical skills, and play a vital role in sustaining the operations of a meaningful and impactful organization.

Volunteers for the equipment maintenance project at HumanityOne Campus will be involved in a variety of tasks, which include:

  • Routine Maintenance: Performing regular checks and servicing of generators, tractors, weed eaters, tillers, trailers, photovoltaic systems, and power tools such as chainsaws and pressure washers.

  • Repairs and Troubleshooting: Identifying and fixing mechanical and electrical issues in equipment and tools.

  • Cleaning and Lubrication: Ensuring all equipment is clean and properly lubricated to prevent wear and tear.

  • Inventory Management: Keeping track of tools and equipment, noting any items that require repair or replacement.

  • Safety Inspections: Conducting safety checks to ensure all equipment is in safe working condition and compliant with safety standards.

  • Documentation: Recording maintenance activities, repairs, and any issues encountered for future reference.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

  • Time Commitment: Flexible/TBD

  • Onboarding Process: Phone interview that is approximately 15-20 minutes.

  • Required Skills/Experience: 

    • Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to learn and apply maintenance techniques.

    • Experience with Tools: Familiarity with using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.

    • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues effectively.

    • Attention to Detail: Ensuring all maintenance and repairs are performed accurately and safely.

    • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety practices and procedures when working with machinery and tools.

    • Previous Maintenance Experience: Experience in equipment maintenance, repair, or related fields is a plus but not required.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to handle tools and equipment with precision and care. Capability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds) and perform tasks that require physical effort, such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems is beneficial, though training can be provided. Careful attention to detail to ensure equipment is properly maintained and safely operational. Understanding of and adherence to safety protocols while working with machinery and tools. Unfortunately this opportunity is not able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible.

  • Attire: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes to protect feet from heavy equipment and tools. Long pants to protect legs from scratches, debris, and sun exposure. Work gloves to protect hands while handling tools and equipment. Safety goggles to protect eyes from dust, debris, and potential hazards. Long-sleeved shirt to protect arms from exposure to the sun and potential abrasions. A hat or cap to provide shade and protection from the sun. Ear protection is recommended for tasks involving loud equipment.

  • Location: This volunteer opportunty is located in Boulevard, CA which is located 65 miles east or over 1 hour from downtown San Diego.
