VIRTUAL: Companionship Caller Volunteer

Help reduce senior isolation – join Meals on Wheels San Diego County's Companionship Calls Program! Some of our San Diego seniors are experiencing loneliness and isolation. By volunteering to become a companion caller, you can help alleviate social isolation by simply having a 15-30 minute weekly or bi-weekly phone conversation with a senior.

Meals on Wheels San Diego County will pair you with a San Diego senior with similar interests who has expressed the desire to talk to a companion. Simply call the senior on an agreed upon time once a week or every other week to have a friendly conversation. Their new companion program system, Mon Ami, will help protect your privacy by shielding your phone number during calls. Apply today to be a companion to a senior in need.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

• Time Commitment: 15 - 30 minute phone call weekly or bi-weekly for at least several months.

• Onboarding Process: Fill out the volunteer application. Complete a LiveScan in-person background check that reviews in California and FBI records. Pay a $10 fee to help offset the cost of the background check. Commit to a regular phone call weekly or bi-weekly.

• Required Skills/Experience: Passion for helping seniors and reducing senior isolation.

• Location: This opportunity is remote in San Diego County
