Dog Walker and Kennel Assistant

**MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE** 

Due to the post-COVID influx of relinquished/abandoned dogs, A Way Home for Dogs is in need of volunteers to care for the about 70 dogs at their kennel. The more support their team gets, the more they can be out in the community catching stray dogs and helping reunite dogs with their owners. 

Volunteers will support the dog rescue in walking dogs, cleaning kennels and crates, washing laundry and dishes, sweeping, mopping, and scooping dog poop.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

• Time Commitment: At least 4 hours, 4 days a week for a minimum of 6 months. Shifts generally take place from 8:00am - 12:00pm with later evening times available as well.

• Required Skills/Experience: **MUST BE OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE** Able to follow directions and work in a loud enviornment.

• Desired Skills/Experience: Experience caring for dogs **MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE** 

• Physical Requirements: **MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE** Physically able to walk dogs of all sizes short distances, several times in a row; and/or be able to stoop, kneel, bend and lift to assist with cleaning kennels and crates, as well as sweeping and moping and doing laundry. Must be able to tolerate loud volume levels. Unfortunately this opportunity is not able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible.

• Attire: Clothes that can get dirty and/or bleached. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are reccomended.

• Note: This is a very loud, fast paced environment with 70 dogs in indoor and outdoor kennels in Jamul (91935). From Rancho San Diego the drive is 20 minutes, from Spring Valley its 25 minutes. 

A Way Home For Dogs

The mission of A Way Home for Dogs is to provide free pet recovery service assisting owners with their lost pets on a global scale, as well as securing evasive street strays. When the strays are secured, we process them through the local shelter system. If those dogs don't get claimed and are deemed not adoptable, we enter them into our rescue, pending space. We give the dogs the time they need to decompress and show us who they are, before we start the rehabilitation process.
