FOOD: San Marcos Food Distribution

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Summit Church has gone from hosting 2 food distributions per month to 2-3 per week. Each month they feed 300 families who usually pick up the food they need weekly. 

Volunteers help prepare for the food distribution by packing bags or boxes with canned food and produce. Volunteers then distribute food and diapers to individuals and families in San Marcos. Volunteers who help during the food distribution will be asked to help with cleaning up at the end of the shift. 

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

• Attire: Please wear closed-toe shoes. Wear comfortable, casual clothing. This project takes place outdoors so dress appropriately for the weather. Bring sun protection like a hat and sunscreen.

• Physical Requirements: For preparation of produce, bags will be a maximum of 5 pounds. For distribution, different items are consolidated in the boxes so they can weigh up to 20 pounds. Certain tasks can be executed while sitting such as bagging produce. The restrooms on site are not wheelchair accessible. 

• Weather: This project usually takes place rain or shine. If it is windy along with raining, it may be canceled and volunteers will be notified. 

• Religious Observerance: Some individuals may ask for prayers. Volunteers are not required to join. 

• ​Note: Volunteers are crucial to the success of the food distribution. Please give AT LEAST 24 hours notice if you cannot attend.
