Escondido Fire Department Support Volunteer
The Escondido Fire Department (EFD) Support Volunteer (SV) program is a group of uniformed volunteers, over the age of 50, who contribute their time to serve the public by providing a broad range of logistic, administrative and public education support to the Department. Although a couple of SV’s are currently employed elsewhere, the group consists mainly of retired citizens offering their unpaid time and service to the EFD. Any experience along with a desire to serve is welcome!
As a support volunteer for the Escondido Fire Department you will provide first responders and the community of Escondido with essential support needed to provide top quality service.
Support Volunteer Key Responsibilities:

Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment throughout the seven fire stations in Escondido, the fire department headquarters, and city hall

Respond to extended emergency incidents with the Support Volunteer van to set up and staff a firefighter rehabilitation function (cooldown and hydration)

Assist with basic fire prevention inspections and education

Provide office support such as filing, answering phones, and computer data entry

Test and install smoke alarms as requested by homeowners

Assist the Fire Prevention Bureau at special events with informational displays, presentations and fire extinguisher demonstrations
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Time Commitment: 4 hours per week/16-20 hours per month for a minimum of 1 year

Onboarding Process: Application, interview, Live Scan (fingerprint) background check, DMV Check, and training. Volunteers must have a valide California Driver's License and be able to provide proof of auto insurance. Training will be provided by the Escondido Fire Department.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 40 pounds with a partner. Must be able to drive at night.

Required Skills/Experience: Must be able to and have access to the internet for website and email information

Desired Skills/Experience: Past fire and EMS experience is a plus but not required. Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
