HELP OUT: Mobile Showers for Homeless Folks in Pacific Beach

The Fresh Start Showers program--the largest program in Think Dignity's line of Mobile Operations of Dignity (MOD) Squad services--travels throughout San Diego County to provide access to basic hygiene services for those experiencing homelessness. Their shower events also serve as a resource hub as they invite other agencies and community partners to provide services and opportunities to restore dignity, such as mental health and medical assistance, hot meals, haircuts, and clean clothes.

Volunteers support the Fresh Start Showers events by managing the resource table and assisting with intake/exit forms, ensuring cleanliness and safety of showers units and monitoring shower time, and distributing and replenishing the shower supply table. By volunteering you are helping provide a critical and often overlooked need for safe and clean access to hygiene.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

• Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required. Wearing comfortable clothing is recommended. This opportunity takes place outdoors so dress for the weather. 

• Physical Requirements: Volunteers will be bending and lifting up to 20 lbs. Assisting with the intake and hygiene supply table can be easily accommodated for those with physical limitations.

• ​Safety: A disinfecting system has been installed to keep both guests and volunteers safe. 

• Note: Volunteers are allowed to take pictures with each other but are not allowed to take photos of guests. Think Dignity maintains confidentiality of their guests which includes taking pictures of their faces.
